Open Internet

Tunnelbear

TunnelBear is a mission-driven VPN service that has been working towards an open and uncensored internet for ten years. Last year, they launched a dedicated internet freedom team, who work on making the app more accessible in restrictive environments. The team has been working to combat VPN censorship by building circumvention capabilities into the app. They also regularly collaborate with the broader internet freedom community to distribute VPN to digital rights activists and provide free bandwidth to countries experiencing widespread cyber censorship.

Global Cyber Alliance

Internet security is one of the most significant challenges in our connected world. A trustworthy Internet is a shared, universal challenge that reaches beyond borders and connects us all. Fortunately, the Internet was built by people and it runs on software. That means we can fix it – fast.

At GCA we build programs, partnerships, and tools to make the connected world safer and more secure for all.

Internews

At Internews, we believe everyone deserves trustworthy news and information to make informed decisions about their lives and hold power to account. We train journalists and digital rights activists, tackle disinformation, and offer business expertise to help media outlets become financially sustainable. We do all of this in partnership with local communities – who are the people best placed to know what works.

Democratic Principles For An Open Internet

The Democratic Principles for an Open Internet have been primarily designed for citizens and civil society organizations in fragile and emerging democracies, who are new to the digital rights space, are beginning to engage more regularly online, and who may be more likely to encounter deliberate internet disruptions as a result of government interference. We hope this guide will help activists working for democracy in an internet age and connect them in global peer networks to exchange best practices.
