Since 1983, IRI has helped spread democracy by offering workshops on strengthening multi-party political systems, democratic governance, women’s empowerment, civil society, youth leadership and electoral processes.

IRI encourages democracy in places where it is absent, helps democracy become more effective where it is in danger, and shares best practices where democracy is flourishing.

As the global leader in democracy promotion, the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) advances good governance and democratic rights by:

Tweets That Chill: Analyzing Online Violence Against Women in Politics

In the three case study countries (Colombia, Indonesia, Kenya), NDI’s Gender, Women, and Democracy team worked with women in politics, those in civic technology and women’s rights organizations to develop a way to examine the country specific challenges facing women as they engage in online political discourse. The outcomes of the case studies confirmed that across the three countries women engaging in politics online experienced similar types of violence including insults and hate speech, embarrassment and reputational risk, physical threats, and sexualized misrepresentation.

FGV DAPP

The Department of Public Policy Analysis of Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV/DAPP) is a center for applied social research concerned with innovation in public policies in Brazil. 

FGV/DAPP aims to qualify the public debate through data transparency, social participation, and dialogue with networked society. They conduct research around topics of politics on the web, policy transparency, security and citizenship, and more.

Center for International Private Enterprise

Since 1983 CIPE has been working with local partners to craft business-driven solutions to social-economic problems that affect millions of people. We at CIPE believe that democracy is at its strongest when the private sector is flourishing. Working with our local partners that include business associations, chambers of commerce, think tanks, universities and advocacy organizations, CIPE is helping create the enabling environment for business to thrive. This can only happen when the core institutions of democracy are strong and transparent.

Global Forum for Media Development

The Global Forum for Media Development (GFMD), a not-for-profit, Belgian registered ASBL, is a network of journalism support and media assistance groups established in 2005 in Amman, Jordan. The GFMD’s core value is to support the creation and strengthening of journalism and free, independent, sustainable and pluralistic news ecosystems.
